LIFE OUT AT SEA

So, as Dimitris Manis snapped this photo of me walking down the beach this morning, I was struck with how much beautiful life really is. It really made me think about everything I’ve been through and what a hell of a ride it has been.

I started out diving on one breath when I was 6. I taught my first course as a freediving instructor when I was 22. I’ve had a few years off the sea to attempt a “regular life”, but it just never made sense to me.

They say life out at sea is an extraordinary experience and hell, they might be right! Sure this life has its downside, its sacrifices and days that are downright dark. Over all though, it is an extraordinary way to make a living. Hell, I am travelling around the world because of it!

All that being said, this is the most comfortable period I’ve ever been in my own skin. I’ve learned to accept my flaws and limitations. I’ve also learned to work daily on myself be it stretching, physical exercise, apnea training, meditation and proper dieting. I wouldn’t change this lifestyle for anything. I like being out at sea. I enjoy the time I am able to spend freediving and spearfishing uncharted waters. I’m grateful I’ve weeded out toxic people and habits out of my life. With time comes wisdom and also a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you.
